The Lisbon High School Class of 1942 held their 66th reunion at the Howard County Living Farm Heritage Museum. Twelve classmates along with various family members attended the reunion. This is the only class from Lisbon High School that has held a reunion every year since graduation. I guess you can say they really like each other!
Jane Beaver coordinated the reunion. Ed Frank did his part with the customary "ringing of the class bell" to open the event. Before the picnic lunch, Leroy Brown reminisced about the class and gave the blessing. Entertainment was provided by the country and bluegrass sound of The Lone Mountain Band, directed by John Frank, Ed's son.
The reunion program included a moment of silence to remember deceased classmates, cards to send to classmates unable to attend the reunion, and poetry readings. The Class of 1942 is the first group to hold a private function at the Museum and the group made a sizable donation to the Museum. The reunion closed with John Frank's original song dedicated to the Class of 1942.
The classmates were treated to a tour of the Farm Heritage Museum facility. Ed Frank has been working to collect farming antiques and is overseeing the construction of a 100- by 200-foot building that will house the farm antiques as well as office and meeting space. A dairy milking parlor is being renovated along with the old farm house. There's an old tenant house that has been converted into a one-room schoolhouse.
If you're interested in touring the Farm Heritage Museum, there will be a festival Sept. 26-28.
It's hard to believe that the Fourth of July is almost upon us. Howard County's annual July 4 festival and fireworks display will be held on the 4th beginning at 5 p.m. at the downtown Columbia lakefront.
There will be two stages of live entertainment with performances by the Patty Reese Band, the Players Band, and Damon Foreman and Blue Funk.
The second stage will host children's entertainment featuring The Kinderman and juggler and stilt man, Wes Holly. There will also be carnival games and crafts.
You can bring a picnic dinner or purchase refreshments from vendors. Parking is free and you can tune into 1700AM radio for traffic and parking information.
The rain date will be Sunday, July 6. Go to www.howardcountymd.gov or call 410-313-1671 for an events schedule or information.
