With all of the holiday hustle and bustle, why not take some time to enjoy a walk back in time to the days when the pace of things was a lot slower?

So, Ladies, put on your poodle skirt and dust off those saddle oxford shoes. Guys, slip into those leather jackets and comb your hair into a DA (does everyone know what that style was???) and join the crowd as they share Christmas at "Uncle Phil's Diner."

Oh, did I say to join the crowd? Well, that may be a mistake because it is my understanding that there is 'No Room at the Diner.' Well, I guess you will have to show up and just squeeze your way in as our favorite diner is back for an evening of food and fun from the fabulous 50s. Everyone is invited to come and join the cast of "Uncle Phil's Diner," which is an interactive dinner theater for Outreach, as the cast takes us on a trip back to the 1950s for an evening of food, music, and fun.

For this production of "Uncle Phil's Diner," the cast will provide an evening of Christmas entertainment unlike anything you have ever seen. I might add that the diner is packed because P.J., Uncle Phil's nephew, has overbooked the restaurant with Christmas parties.

However, do not let that stop you from coming on out to enjoy dinner and the show. In addition to the dinner and show, the wait staff even throws in a nostalgic gift for Uncle Phil and stages the Nativity as a final touch to the evening.

So invite your friends and family and come on down to the hottest spot in town for a dinner and show Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.; Dec. 12 at 1 and 6 p.m.; and Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and show are $10 per person if bought in advance or $12 per person if bought at the door.

"Uncle Phil's Diner" is held at the Savage United Methodist Church in the social hall. The cast of "Uncle Phil's Diner" is asking patrons to bring canned or boxed goods as a donation for the Bread of Life Food Pantry, located at the First Baptist Church of Savage.

For tickets, please call Sharon Brown, SUMC Office, at 301-725-7630.

Every year, the Merchants of Savage Mill decorate trees in honor of local charities, giving Mill guests the opportunity to "vote" for their favorite tree by making a small donation to that charity.

This year, the Savage Mill Merchants have united to support the Fort Meade Officer's Wives' Club. The group supports the Fort Meade community through need-based welfare grants and scholarships for military dependents, totaling approximately $12,000. Most recently, the OWC assisted a Fort Meade family with the purchase of a guide dog for their three severely autistic children. This year, the OWC has increased their goal for grants and scholarships to $17,000, and Historic Savage Mill wants to help!

The Historic Savage Mill is asking for your help in supporting this very worthwhile charity. Help us by helping to say "Thank You" to the members of our local armed forces and their families! Stop by the Historic Savage Mill and view the beautifully decorated trees and vote for your favorite.

By the way, the extended holiday hours for the Historic Savage Mill will begin Dec. 14 and runs through Dec. 24. The hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Historic Mill will be closed Christmas Day.

As a note, the new preacher in town, the Rev. Kenneth Gooch, of First Baptist Church of Savage, wants to invite everyone to stop by his office and say "hi". He is interested in meeting members of the community and is anxious to get to know all about our community and its members.

So, stop by his office, or if you happen to be passing the FBC of Savage and see a man in cowboy boots and hat, please stop and introduce yourself.

I want to wish all of my readers a great and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. It is a seasonal holiday when we all take time to reflect on the things that we are thankful for, such as God, family and friends. In addition, we should remember our armed forces who are separated from their families and give thanks for them and the country in which we live.

I also want to wish all of my readers who will be celebrating either a birthday or an anniversary during the upcoming week, a very happy one!

I think it's nice that we have a pastor who takes an interest in meeting community members.
