Teen Scene> Applications are still being accepted from high school students residing in Howard County interested in writing once a month for the Teen Scene during the 2008-09 school year. Please send samples of your writing to Christie Dumler at cdumler@theviewnewspapers.com. The deadline for application is July 25.

Citizens needed for review committee> Applications are now being solicited for membership on the instructional materials/criteria review committee. Five new citizen members are needed for a two-year term. New members will be appointed in September and begin serving in October. Applications can be found on the school system Web site, www.hcpss.org under latest news. Submit applications to Elaine Zavaleta, office of secondary language arts. Deadline is Aug. 29.

Community Center

Game room> The Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, offers a game room for teens. The room features a pool table, ping pong, bumper pool, and video game area around a big screen television. Weekdays, 2:30-5:30 p.m., Ages 12 and older. Center ID required. Call 410-313-4840. The program is provided with the assistance of a Horizon Foundation grant.

Glenelg Country

World premiere performance> Glenelg Country School's Performing Arts Department, under the direction of Carole Lehan, will perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Edinburgh, Scotland this August, as part of the American High School Theatre Festival. The world premiere of "Aesop's Foibles," a musical--book by Carole Graham Lehan with music and lyrics by Tom French--will be at the 360-seat Church Hill Theatre. Thirty-five upper school students, from sophomores through graduating seniors, will present four performances during their 2-week trip to London and Edinburgh. "Aesop's Foibles" was first presented this past spring at Glenelg County School.

College News

William Martin, a business administration major, graduated from Endicott College May 17, 2008.

Uzma Ahmed was named to the spring semester dean's list, 2008 of Rosemont College.

Kristen McMahon was placed on the dean's commendation list for the spring semester, 2008 at Gettysburg College.

Jose Pitti received a bachelor of arts in philosophy from Lehigh University June 19, 2008.

Eleanya Ogba Onuoha was named to the dean's list for the spring semester, 2008 at Arkansas Tech University.
