According to state education officials, the last inspection of Howard County's Food and Nutrition Service in March 2008 found that school meals met the USDA requirements for the following nutrients:

* calories

* iron

* calcium

* vitamin A

* vitamin C

* protein

* percent of calories from fat

* percent of calories from saturated fat

The inspection also found that the county had not yet met the USDA's recommendations for:

* cholesterol

* sodium

* fiber
