Health & Wellness Fair> Glenwood Middle School. Tuesday, April 28. 6-9 p.m. Information will be available on heart disease, Celiac disease, asthma, allergies, nutrition, teen exercise and more. Samples of healthy foods by Diet to Go, Market Day, and others, will be available. There will also be demonstrations to participate in such as yoga, boot camp, fit class and teen class. Screenings available include blood pressure check, and fat and body mass index percentage analysis by staff from Howard County General Hospital and Glenwood Community Center. Volunteers needed to help set up, work during the fair, and break down.
Autism Workshop> Autism expert Dr. Stephen Shore will speak to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families May 2 on how to plan for the successful transition to college and adulthood. This half-day workshop will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Howard Community College's Smith Theatre. The registration fee is $50 and includes breakfast. Registration is due by April 30. Competition for Entrepreneurs> The Annual Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Competition, sponsored by JA and Ernst & Young recognizes young people who have best embraced the entrepreneurial spirit. The competition is open to any student in grades 9-12 who has started and is currently running his or her own business. Applications accepted through April 30. Mean Girls> The Women's Giving Circle and The Horizon Council presents "Mean Girls...Queen Bees, Gamma Girls and Surviving the Female Hierarchy." Mothers and daughters discuss the social and peer pressures on girls 11-15. Workshops led by Deborah West of the Howard County Public School System. A free dinner is provided.
