New green initiatives and previous energy conservation standbys in administration and daily campus activities have prompted the Maryland Green Registry to accept Capitol College as a member.

The quarterly magazine, the Capitol Chronicle, is printed on 50 percent recycled paper and is posted online, while other publications like the student handbook and course catalogs are also posted online.

Eligible Capitol employees are allowed to participate in a telecommuting work option to reduce daily commuter trips and fuel consumption, while teleconferencing technology and the synchronous Capitol Live and asynchronous Capitol Online platforms can host events and meetings for outside visitors in lieu of traveling to campus.

Through the Maryland Green Registry, Capitol's efforts to reduce its environmental impact can be shared willingly with other registry members and with the public. At the same time, the college gains the insight of other similar universities and companies attempting to be more energy efficient.
