James Harrison Elementary and Laurel Woods Elementary are among 13 local schools and nonprofits that received free children's books through the 2009 Verizon Foundation's Season's Readings campaign. Through the campaign,Verizon employees donate new or gently used children's books, and others could make online donations to First Book, a nonprofit organization providing new books to children in need through schools, libraries and other community organizations. Random House Children's Books also participated by matching contributions made online, adding more than 15,000 books to the campaign total.
