Jump rope classes

Kangaroo Kids will hold jump rope workshops Wed., July 2 and Thu., July 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 10001 Route 108. Jumpers must be at least 6 years old to participate. Jumpers should wear comfortable shorts and a shirt (no jeans) and aerobic type shoes (no sandals). Jump ropes will be available for purchase. To register, e-mail kangarookids1@gmail.com with your child's name, age, telephone number and preferred day of attendance. Cost is $40, payable by cash or check the day of the workshop.

School calendar for next year

The approved 2008-2009 school year calendar can be found at the Howard County Public School System Web site, www.hcpss.org. The first day of school will be Aug. 25.

At the library

The Howard County Library's 2008 Summer Reading Club is off and running for preschool through high school students. Earn prizes for reading. Register at any branch library or online at www.hclibrary.org.

Child care

Howard County Recreation & Parks offers Licensed Early Learning Centers for children ages 2-4 years of age. Programs are offered at the following locations: Bushy Park Elementary, Elkridge Elementary, Fulton Elementary, Gorman Crossing Elementary, Kiwanis Wallas, Triadelphia Ridge Elementary, Roger Carter Center and Veterans Elementary. Summer camps

Capitol Debate, a business partner with the Howard County Public School System, will host summer camps in debate, public speaking and mock trial for students entering fourth through ninth-grades. Dates are July 21 to Aug. 1, 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. (extended hours available) at the Loyola College, Columbia Campus, 8890 McGaw Road. Apply online at capitol-debate.com.
