The city's season of free Friday movies begins on June 26, when "Madagascar 2: Escape from Africa" is shown outdoors at Granville Gude Park and lakehouse, 8300 Mulberry St. The movie series is presented by the Laurel Department of Parks and Recreation and co-sponsored by Don Pablo's Restaurant of Laurel. Bring a blanket; some refreshments will be available for purchase. "Kung Fu Panda" is scheduled for July 10, "The Tale of Despereaux" on July 24 and "Igor" on Aug. 7. Oldies, top 40 and classic rock is performed by Oracle Band in the first concert of the Montpelier summer series, Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m., on the grounds of Montpelier Mansion, 9652 Muirkirk Road at Route 197. Enjoy a Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road at Route 197. Explore the grounds of Montpelier, play colonial games, make a craft, dress up in old-fashioned clothes and take a tour. All ages can participate, and visitors are welcome to have a picnic dinner on the grounds. But have a rain plan; no inside eating facilities available at Montpelier. Donations of canned food will be collected for local food banks. No reservations required. Call 301-377-7817.

A free outdoor concert series is a great way for the Laurel School of Music to celebrate its 20th year of music education. The summer series kicks off Sunday, June 28, 7-9 p.m., at McCullough Field, Eighth and Montgomery streets. Enjoy 70s rock favorites by such icons as Billy Joel, Don Mclean, Carly Simon and the Eagles, performed by the LSM House Band. Also, guitarist Matt Arbach will play some hot guitar blues, and there will be activities for small children. Be sure to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and maybe even a picnic basket. The concert is sponsored by the Laurel School of Music, Laurel Department of Parks and Recreation, Laurel Board of Trade, Laurel Main Street Pharmacy and Long & Foster Realtors Pam Emery and Bergie Speares.

Bring the family and find a bargain at American Legion Auxiliary Unit 60's Family Fun Day and craft and vendor sale, Sunday, June 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Legion Post, 2 Main St. The kids will enjoy the moon bounce and musical concerts, and everyone will enjoy browsing for great deals.
