The culture of Italian-Americans will be on display at the annual St. Gabriel Italian Festival, happening Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 22-23, noon-8 p.m., in and around St. Leo's Church (located at Stiles and Exeter streets). The menu will showcase pasta, ravioli, pizza, fried dough and Italian sausage, plus there will be Italian music and games, such a bocce. There will also be a traditional Solemn Mass, spoken in Italian and English and held in honor of St. Gabriel Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Admission is $1. Call 410-675-7275.
Pikesville block party
The Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor a block party, Dancing in the Streets, Sunday, Aug. 23, 1-7 p.m., along Sudbrook Lane, which will be closed between Old Court and Reisterstown roads. This event will feature live music by Big Cam & the Lifters and J.D. and the Blades, an Elvis impersonator, a classic Corvette display, activities for children, and lots of food. Fun for the family
Families in the region might want to check out the Catonsville Family Center Y when it holds a Family Fun Night Saturday, Aug. 22, 6-9 p.m., at 850 S. Rolling Road. For the occasion, guests can take part in a fitness class, use the gym or pool, and participate in a variety of games. There will also be healthy snacks and giveaways. Admission is free. Worst movie ever
Come Thursday, Aug. 20, 8 p.m., several theaters in the region will show a simulcast of a film considered the worst ever made, "Plan 9 from Outer Space." The simulcast will feature comedic voiceover commentary by the performers of the TV comedy program "Mystery Science Theater 3000." The Community College of Baltimore County will host a bus trip through Pennsylvania's countryside, Christmas Unwrapped, Wednesday, Aug. 26, 7:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. The trip will let people see Kohl's Stony Hill Tree Farm, the Ribbon & Bow Outlet and Rolling Hills Red Deer Farm. Fun with science
Port Discovery will hold a Freaky Friday Science Lab for children Friday, Aug. 21, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at 35 Market Place, in Baltimore City.
