" ... and the nominees are ..."

Once again, time dwindles away to a precious few ticks as those four unlikely words hang in the air and send a hundred ecstatic hearts leaping and clanging like a fork caught in the garbage disposal. Another tense year of high school drama takes its last gasp as performers and production crews await the fateful decision of the judges.

For the 11 Howard County high schools and seven others with shows entered in this year's competition, the Cappies of Baltimore Gala 2008 is not the be-all, but it will be the end-all. Teams of actors, technicians, advisors and critics all played their parts and now face the judgment of their peers on which show raised the bar the highest, belted the song the farthest, touched the audience the deepest.

Below are this year's nominated teams and individuals, along with the titles of their productions. Winners will be announced from the stage during a black-tie gala June 1 at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. Seats sell out quickly, but are available to the public now through Ticketmaster and in person at the Hippodrome box office.
