You were probably expecting this piece to feature a strawberry dessert recipe. Nah. Anyone can do dessert. But this chunky sauce uses strawberries to help flavor yet another main-course protein source: chicken, pork or fish (red snapper, if you can get it).

Do the meat up simply, on the grill or in the oven, or stovetop if you wish.

Proffer the flavorful salsa on the side. Add some pilaf rice with toasted almonds and mild green chile peppers or finely diced green bell pepper. Heat some tortillas. Quaff a wine that's appropriate to the meat or fish. Or pop open a Corona or Dos Equis.

2 cups chopped (hulled) strawberries

2/3 cup chopped (peeled) kiwi fruit

2/3 cup chopped cucumber

2/3 cup chopped Spanish (white) onion

3 tablespoons finely chopped jalape
