The Wayside Drive Survivors and Friends team will be participating in the second annual Western Howard County Relay for Life Friday, June 20 at Western Regional Park on Route 197, in Woodbine. Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature event, is a fun-filled overnight experience bringing together all those touched by cancer.
People gather at Relay to celebrate survivors and remember those lost. The survivors' lap and luminaria ceremony celebrate both groups. The events are held overnight as a reminder that cancer never sleeps. Participants raise money and awareness.
The event isn't about taking laps. It's about coming together to fight against cancer. Join Relay to celebrate life, friendship and hope for a cancer-free future. If you are interested in joining or contributing to this team, call Margaret Walton at 301-854-0345 or e-mail walton111@yahoo.com.
Grab a blanket or lawn chairs, bring the family, have a picnic and enjoy the sounds of summer while supporting Relay for Life. The Howard County Parks and Recreation traveling showmobile will be at the Western Regional Park. The Hula Monsters, deemed by many as one of the best bands in the world, will perform. Edy/Dreyer's Grand ice cream will sponsor free ice cream. You can have loads of fun while supporting a worthy cause Friday, June 20.

Warm weather brings out the worst in some people. Be sure to lock all doors, windows, garages, vehicles and anything else you want to keep. Some of your neighbors have already been visited by thieves.

Have you visited the blog? I'm learning a little more each week. Soon there will be photos posted. I haven't learned how to do that yet.
Would you believe the Walton's twin grandsons, Jack and Randy, turned 2 last month? They celebrated by having "Thomas the Train" come give rides to all the partygoers. Thomas is really cute. He blows bubbles and makes train sounds while transporting passengers around the neighborhood.
Big sister Anne Margaret handed out engineer hats and scarves to all the guests. The boys also celebrated their birthdate at school where Wendy the Clown came to visit. The class theme for the month was a circus. Wendy visited all the classes at the Lighthouse Learning Center. Some of the differently abled children were afraid of Wendy, but she quickly won their hearts. Wendy is looking forward to visiting the school in July and bringing sno-cones and big red noses for each child. Way to go, Wendy.
