Y of Central Maryland> Hosts an evening of food, wine and fun at the 5th Annual Food and Wine Tasting event, Oct. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Darcel Family Center Y, 4331 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City. Guests will enjoy a variety of food and wine samples. Proceeds benefit the Y's annual giving fund in Howard County, which makes Y programs available to those in Howard County who otherwise could not afford them. Cost: $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Fall History Lecture Series> Presentations held every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. sharp in the nave of the church at Historic St. Paul Church, 3755, St. Paul St., Ellicott City. Open to the public. Free. Schedule is as follows: Oct. 14, Sister Cecilia Nguyen of the Archdiocese of Arlington, Va., will speak to her personal story of coming to America from war-torn Vietnam and her journey from refugee to religious and the founder of a Charity for Good Works in Vietnam. A short Q & A will follow her presentation; Oct. 28, Adele Aire will present a talk centered on women's issues of the mid 19th century. Aire is the executive director of the Maryland National Road Association, past director of the B&O Railroad Museum in Ellicott City, historic sites coordinator for Howard County Recreation and Parks and has presented numerous "Living History" presentations. A short Q & A will follow; Nov. 11, His Excellency Edwin F. O'Brien, Archbishop of Baltimore will deliver his presentation addressing the role of the chaplain in the military. The Archbishop was a military chaplain with two tours of service in Vietnam. He was also the Archbishop of the Military Services, USA prior to his assignment to the Archdiocese of Baltimore. For all lectures, arrive prior to the 7 p.m. starting time. There is free parking on the lot behind the church of St. Paul. All lectures are being held in the historic interior of the 1838 church. *Howard County Senior Idol Auditions. Oct. 19-21, 12:30 p.m. Free. Join as seniors audition for a spot in the Howard County Senior Idol Competition. The audition process is open to the public.
