Howard County is studying the feasibility of building and operating a public swimming pool. A June 18 study by a consultant outlined the following four options.

* Build an outdoor 8,000-square-foot leisure pool to include a children's play structure, water slides, a current channel and a "spray ground."

Estimated construction cost: $6.5 million

Estimated annual revenue: $408,700

Estimated annual operating cost: $373,000


* Build a facility that includes an indoor eight-lane lap pool, 5,800-square-foot leisure pool and warm water spa, and an outdoor 9,200-square-foot leisure pool. The indoor features would include springboard diving, children's play features, a current channel and a water slide, while the outdoor area would include water slides and play features.

Estimated construction cost: $20.3 million

Estimated annual revenue: $845,300

Estimated annual operating cost: $1.2 million


* Build an outdoor facility that includes a 9,200-square-foot leisure pool with water slides and play features, and a six-lane lap pool with a diving area.

Estimated construction cost: $7.9 million

Estimated annual revenue: $474,100

Estimated annual operating cost: $451,000


* Build an indoor 50-meter competition pool with springboard diving, moveable bulkheads and 900 spectator seats.

Estimated construction cost: $17.3 million

Estimated annual revenue: $584,600

Estimated annual operating cost: $1 million
