The Howard County Police Department is inviting residents to provide feedback on the department's practices to members of a national accreditation commission who will be visiting the county April 20.

The Howard police department is seeking re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

A commission assessment team composed of law enforcement representatives from agencies in Georgia, Florida and California, will take public comment April 20 at 7 p.m. at the James N. Robey Public Service Training Center, at 2200 Scott Wheeler Drive, in Marriottsville.

Members of the public who cannot attend the public session may call 410-313-2214 on April 21 between 1 and 5 p.m. to offer their comments, police said.

Telephone comments and testimony at the public hearing are generally limited to 10 minutes and must address the police department's ability to comply with the commission's standards. A copy of the standards is available at police headquarters. The local contact for the standards is Tamera G. Bulla who can be reached at 410-313-3229 or by e-mail at tbulla@howardcountymd.gov.

Residents may also write to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Inc., at 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030-2215.
