Kimberly Feldman, an English teacher at Oakland Mills High School, this week was named the 2009 Howard County Teacher of the Year.

A school system news release stated that Feldman “exemplifies the highest standards in teaching and educational leadership.”

Feldman will represent the county in the state Department of Education’s Maryland Teacher of the Year competition.

Feldman was one of seven award-winners announced this week by the Howard County Public Schools.

Other award winners are: Tara Brown, a kindergarten teacher at Talbott Spring Elementary, and Brian Sackett, an English teacher at Atholton High, honored as First Year Educators; Kristie Dietrich, a paraeducator at Cedar Lane School, and Erik Burnett, a transition assistant at Atholton High School, given the Distinguished Assistant Award; Gary Williams, a night building supervisor at Rockburn Elementary given the Excellence in Building Operations Award; and, Nancy Duff, a principal’s secretary at River Hill High School, given the Office Professional Recognition Award.
