Federal lawmakers representing Howard County have requested a number of earmarks specifically for Howard in this year's federal budget process, including the following:

* Intelligent Camera Surveillance System: A camera management system that sends images of "potentially harmful activities" from government buildings to the county 911 center. Cost: $500,000.

* Mid-Maryland Community College Allied Healthcare: Funding for a partnership between Howard, Carroll and Frederick Community Colleges for a shared health care education program based in Mount Airy. Cost: $1.8 million.

*Green Transportation Program: Allows Howard County to replace 10 aging, gas-powered buses with 10 hybrid, electric buses. Cost: $2.6 million.

*Central Maryland Transit Facility: Funding for the construction of a 120-bus storage and maintenance facility to be used by several local transit systems in central Maryland. Cost: $2.28 million.

*Morningside Park Senior Living Community: Funding to create computer centers, libraries and resource rooms in county-owned senior housing facilities. Cost: $700,000.

Rehabilitation Technology Transition Center: Provides money for the Columbia-based OrhoCare Innovations Foundation to develop a research center that focusses on prosthetics technology to aid injured veterans. Cost: $10 million.

*Substance Activated Fast Evaluation Technology: Provides money to Columbia-based Raptor Detection Inc. to develop technology and create test kits that use molecularly imprinted polymers to determine whether a person or object is carrying explosives. Cost: $4.75 million.
