Howard County officials put 25 acres of land in Ellicott City up for sale this week, according to an announcement from the real estate company arranging the sale.

The government-owned land is located at the intersection of Route 40 and Rogers Avenue, not far from the Howard County government headquarters. Manekin LLC, a Columbia-based real estate company, is handling the deal.

"This site is one of the last large parcels of land uniquely situated to take advantage of the eclectic richness of historic Ellicott City, plenty of shopping and services along Route 40 and still provide quick access to government services," County Executive Kenneth Ulman said in a statement.

The site could be used for office, medical, retail, residential or special use, which could include a school or community center, according to the existing zoning. It has public sewer and water and is close to routes 29, 70 and 100, according to Manekin.

Several land sales, including the current site, were announced last year by Ulman as part of an overall plan to renovate and reorganize county government offices.
