Work to extend Riverfront Park from B Street to Route 1 will begin soon, now that City Council members have approved a $56,000 contract for new walking paths in the park. At Monday night's meeting, council members awarded LCCI Construction Management of College Park a contract to lay 470 feet of asphalt paths that will be connected to the existing 10-foot-wide paths.
"We also plan to do some clearing along the paths and add a couple of benches in the area," said Michael Lhotsky, Parks and Recreation director. "We're also adding a dual water fountain for people and pets at Casula Point."
The council also approved a $506,000 contract to Pleasants Construction for sidewalk, ramp, curb and gutter repair on portions of Ward, Eighth and Ninth streets, Fairlawn and Lafayette avenues and St. Mary's Place. Work will begin this month.
