I just received a request to donate to the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad. I was amazed to find that the squad only gets a 20 percent response from the public -- residences and businesses.
All people in Laurel have access to the squad's services. Thus response should be 100 percent. If the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad cannot sustain itself, people will have to rely on private services, which can cost upwards of hundreds of dollars.
As a resident of New Jersey, I paid $300 for a four-block transport from one hospital to another using a private service. Maintaining a local volunteer rescue squad is vital to any community. Any small donation can help save a service essential to Laurel.
