No charges will be filed in connection with a May 20 incident at Wilde Lake Middle School in which a female student reported that she had been sexually assaulted, according to an e-mail released by the school's principal June 30.
"We have now been notified by the Howard County Police Department and State's Attorney's Office that charges will not be filed in the case," principal Scott Conroy said in a message sent to parents who subscribe to an electronic school newsletter. "This concludes the Howard County Police Department's investigation. If more information becomes available, we will keep you updated."
Wayne Kirwan, a spokesman for Howard County State's Attorney Dario Broccolino, confirmed that the case had been dropped, but could not elaborate on specific reasons why.
"Generally speaking, it indicates there is insufficient evidence to pursue the case any further," Kirwan said.
The May 20 report, in which a female student told police and school administrators that she had been sexually assaulted by two male students inside a school bathroom, generated concern in the Wilde Lake community and prompted a community meeting attended by about 150 people in early June.
