A 24-year-old Prince George's County man pleaded guilty June 30 to first-degree assault after shooting a man two times in front of a Royal Farms store in Jessup.

Douglas Howard also pleaded guilty in Howard County Circuit Court to using a handgun in commission of a felony in the shooting, which occurred in the 8600 block of Route 1 on Nov. 17, 2008.

According to charging documents, the shooting victim, Jamie Dennis, identified Howard as the shooter. Dennis said he used to work with Howard, whom he called "Two Step," and said Howard shot him in the left hand and right leg, police said.

Prosecutors plan to ask for an eight-year prison term when Howard is sentenced in front of Judge Richard Bernhardt Oct. 9.
