Laurel firefighters were able to save two family dogs in a house fire that seriously damaged a home in West Laurel on the morning of July 5.

According to a press release from county fire spokesman Mark Brady, firefighters received a call around 11 a.m. on July 5 reporting a house fire on the 6600 block of McCahill Terrace.

One female resident was home at the time of the fire and had escaped prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

Firefighters located a German shepherd and husky in the basement of the one-story home and were able to return the pets to the family, the statement said.

Brady said the cause of the fire is unknown, but is being listed as accidental. The fire caused about $10,000 in damage to the home.
