A firefighter with the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department is being treated at the Medstar Burn Center in Washington, D.C., for third degree burns received while battling a West Laurel blaze on Aug. 24.

According to a news release by the LVFD, Brad Lust was transported to the burn center where he was expected to undergo skin grafts for third degree burns on his arm.

No information was available from the release as to how he was burned during the blaze. His recovery is expected to take about two weeks.

Firefighters from Laurel, Burtonsville and Beltsville were called to the 157000 block of Plowman Drive in West Laurel shortly before 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 for reports of smoke and fire in a single-family home.

According to the release, Lust was the only person injured during the blaze. Damage to the house was estimated to be about $150,000 and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
