County police said Wednesday they had made arrests in an attempted armed robbery and an unrelated armed robbery, both of which occurred in August.
In the first case, police said they have charged Alejandro Valentin Char, 20, of the 2900 block of Summer Hill Drive, in West Friendship, for an attempted armed robbery of a liquor store in West Friendship.
The robbery occurred about 8 p.m. Aug. 27, police said, when a man approached the clerk at Friendship Liquors, pulled a knife and demanded money. When a customer confronted the would-be robber and told him to leave, he fled, police said.
Police later spoke to a witness who was familiar with the man and had seen him at the location on the night of the incident, police said. Police arrested Char on Tuesday.
Char faces charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said. He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center, police said.
In the second case, police have charged Rashad Saeed Campbell, 22, of the 100 block of Lauren Drive, in North Laurel, and a 17-year-old Baltimore male for an armed robbery on an Elkridge footpath, police said.
In that case, police were called to the 6700 block of Old Waterloo Road, in Elkridge, at about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Two teenage males were walking on a footpath near their homes when they were confronted by two males who punched them, threatened to strike them with a glass bottle and stole a cell phone and a hat, police said. After an investigation, Campbell and the teen were identified as suspects, police said.
Both face charges that include armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft. The juvenile was arrested Aug. 26 and will face charges in juvenile court. Campbell was arrested Aug. 27 and is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $25,000 bond, police said.
