David Proudfoot, 31, of Ellicott City, said he is seeking election to the school board because, "Education is my passion. This county is one of the best in the nation for education and I want to be a part of keeping it that way."
For the past six years, Proudfoot has worked at Battle Grove Elementary School, in the Sparrows Point area of Baltimore County, where he is the assistant principal.
Four seats on the seven-member board will be at stake in the 2010 contest.
A 2000 graduate of the University of Central Florida, Proudfoot holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He also has master's and doctoral degrees in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
"I hope to use my knowledge and expertise in education to help the county excel and continue to move forward," he said.
Proudfoot said he has no qualms with the current board, but believes he could provide a new perspective. While he has not formed any major platforms for his campaign, Proudfoot said he will focus on providing "access to equitable education."
"All students should be given the same access," he said. "But because that's not the case, right now, some student groups are not seeing the same results as others."
Mr. Proudfoot helped my children when I needed it most. He would probably do the same for you. He is the right man for the job!
