Howard County police are investigating a collision between a sport-utility vehicle and a Howard transit bus on Route 1 in Elkridge Friday morning that sent five people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and closed a portion of Route 1 for an hour.
The collision occurred at 7:08 a.m., when a 1995 GMC Suburban traveling northbound on Route 1 struck the side of a Howard County transit bus turning onto southbound Route 1 from Route 100, police said.
Route 1 was closed at Route 100 until 8:17 a.m., police said.
All five occupants of the Suburban, who were carpooling to work, were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Three were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, two to Howard County General Hospital. At least one of the two taken to Howard County General was treated and released on Friday.
The driver of the bus was not injured, police said, nor was the sole passenger on the bus.
