The Casey Cares Foundation announced that Howard County resident Casey Baynes, founder and executive director, has been selected to receive the Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award. This program is designed to acknowledge and pay tribute to outstanding women and minority business owners in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington.

The Frostburg State University Foundation Inc. welcomed four new members to its Board of Directors, one being local resident Diane Carter-Richardson, of Ellicott City.

Carter-Richardson graduated from FSU in 1980 with a degree in psychology and a Master of Business Administration degree in 1984. She is the founder of RCI Financial and former vice president of lending at Bank of America. She is also head women's basketball coach at Riverdale Baptist High School, her high school alma mater. She received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from FSU in 1996.

Gaye Rittenhouse, a 35-year real estate professional, has joined Weichert, Realtors -- Caton Properties, in Ellicott City. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors.

Lisa Punt, of Ellicott City, has joined the YMCA of Central Maryland as chief talent officer. Punt will provide leadership to the Y's human resources function.

Punt has served in senior-level human resources roles for several organizations for the past 20 years. Most recently she was senior vice president and managing director of human resources for Provident Bank.

Previously, Punt worked for Citizens Bank, Cadmus Journal Services and Citibank. She attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and has been an active volunteer in a number of community-based organizations including the American Heart Association.

A. Gregory Kelly, Jr., of Ellicott City, has been appointed as one of four new members to St. Agnes Hospital's Healthcare Board of Directors. He is currently the managing partner of Acadine Ventures, a Maryland-based accounting and financial consulting firm to start-up, emerging and mid-market companies. Kelly has over 20 years of accounting, auditing and financial consulting experience, focused primarily on companies in the for-profit healthcare and life sciences, industrial, consumer markets, information and communications industry sectors. Kelly is a member of the AICPA and is a member of numerous trade organizations in and around Maryland. Additionally, Kelly has served on committees for the Maryland High Technology Council, the Greater Baltimore Technology Council, and the Maryland Industrial Partnerships Program.

Three new members have joined the Howard County Advisory Board of Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland, chairperson Lisa Berlin announced. The newcomers include Robyn Parker, of Ellicott City.

Parker is a graduate of the 2008 inaugural class of Leadership Essentials. She is the manager of the Hickory Ridge branch of Howard Bank.

Family and Children's Services offers family and individual counseling, in-home services for elderly and disabled people, and the Healthy Families program for first time parents. Family and Children's Services accepts third-party insurance and charges uninsured clients fees based on a sliding scale.

Family and Children's Services has Howard County offices in the Wilde Lake Village Center in Columbia and in the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center in North Laurel.

Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland recently named its 2009 leadership team, featuring a local Ellicott City resident. AT&T Director of Sales Larry Taylor will serve as the Chairman of the Board.

In his role of Better Business Bureau Chairman, Taylor will guide the leadership in concert with the standards to foster marketplace trust and denounce substandard behavior.

Taylor takes over for Michael T. Smith, senior vice president for PNC Bank, who held the position since September 2007.

Taylor lives with his wife and three kids and is an active member of the community. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Saint Vincent College and a master of business administration from Johns Hopkins University.

Lucernex Technologies, a developer of business intelligence software for real estate management and development, has announced that original co-founder Joseph Valeri, of Ellicott City, has rejoined the company as president and member of the board of directors. In this role, Valeri will be responsible for overseeing Lucernex's operations, strategic planning and business development.

In addition to co-founding Lucernex in 2000, Valeri was the company's vice president of products and chief information officer until 2004. He led the development of the original Lucernex Integrated Workplace Management System, which is currently managing hundreds of thousands of locations in the retail, restaurant, hospitality, engineering and construction industries. He has more than 15 years of experience building and growing software companies. Valeri has earned a bachelor's degree in management, an M.B.A. in finance, and a master's degree in decision and information technology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

TD Bank named William N. Chalfant Jr. the regional vice president in community banking for Maryland. He is responsible for the growth of community bank commercial lending throughout Maryland.

Chalfant has 28 years experience in banking and lending. Before joining TD Bank, he served as senior vice president at PNC Bank in Maryland.

A Ellicott City resident, Chalfant serves on the board of the Howard County Economic Indicators. He received an MBA from Loyola University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond.
