Heavy rain combined with saturated ground and melting piles of snow left over from twin blizzards in February could cause flooding this weekend, officials are warning.

According to a release from the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, communities across the state could experience flash flooding in narrow stream and creek valleys, with rivers cresting above flood stage along major waterways, and tidal flooding along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

The rain is forecast to continue through Saturday evening, with as much as four inches expected.

MEMA officials are warning Marylanders not to attempt to cross flowing streams or drive through flooded roadways. If your vehicle stalls out in the water, get out and find higher ground. At night, officials recommend being especially careful, as flood dangers are harder to recognize.
