George W. Cooper

George Wayne Cooper, of Fulton, died Aug. 20, 2008, of cardiac arrest, at Howard County General Hospital. He was 55.

Born Aug. 22, 1952, in Patterson, N.J., to Jess and Myrtle Fiske Cooper, he graduated from Eastern Christian School in Patterson.

In 1975, Mr. Cooper earned a joint degree -- a bachelor of science in engineering from Calvin College and a masters of science degree in electronic engineering from the University of Michigan. In addition, he earned a master of science degree in civil engineering in 1986 from the University of Maryland.

He married Elizabeth L. Lawrence in 1980.

Mr. Cooper began employment with the National Security Agency in 1992, where he was an engineer.

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the Christian Reformed Church, in Washington, D.C. and the Howard County Striders.

Family members recall that Mr. Cooper had a license as a professional engineer.

In addition to his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth L. Cooper, Mr. Cooper is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Cooper and Rachel Cooper, both of Fulton; a sister and a brother-in-law, Ruth and Bud Cooper, of Michigan; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, David and Ruth Cooper, of Texas, and Thomas and Cynthia Cooper, of Wisconsin; and his parents, Jess and Myrtle Fiske Cooper, of New Jersey.

Funeral services were held Aug. 25, 2008, at Christian Reformed Church, in Washington. The Rev. Norman Steen presided.

Interment was private.
