Paul Lopata
Paul Lopata, of Ellicott City, died Sept. 25, 2008, at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He was 85.
Mr. Lopata was born in Nesquehoning, Pa., on Nov. 22, 1922, to the late Nicholas Lopata and Mary (Skerchock) Lopata.
He attended Bloomsburg College and New York University. Mr. Lopata served in the U.S. Army. He received a Silver Star, Victory Medal, Combat Medical Badge, EAME Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, American Ribbon and Meritorious Service Unit Plaque.
He also was a teacher in Baltimore County.
Mr. Lopata was the widower of Nelldred Clotine (Pickleshimer) Lopata.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Lopata, of Catonsville; a son, Nicholas Raymond Lopata, of Takoma Park; two brothers, Nicholas Lopata, of Boyertown, Pa., and Andrew Lopata, of Andreas, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at Slack Funeral Home P.A., in Ellicott City, on Sept. 29, with The Rev. Mike Triplett officiating.
Interment was at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Garrison Forest, in Reisterstown.
