Leslie R. Welsh Jr.

Leslie Raymond "Sonny Boy" Welsh Jr., 82, a resident of Savage for 57 years, who formerly lived in Scaggsville, died Nov. 9, 2008 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross in Burtonsville.

He was born May 31, 1926 in Scaggsville, son of the late Mary (Cole) Welsh and Leslie R. Welsh Sr. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 and served in the Pacific during World War II. After discharge from the Navy, he enlisted in the Army and spent time in Taiwan. He retired from federal government employment at the Patent Office.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Welsh, who died in 1988.

Mr. Welsh is survived by his sisters, Lorraine Chesgreen, of Little Mountain, S.C., Olga Owens, of Laurel, Betty Jackson, of Silver Spring, and Gloria Tucker, of Sykesville; brother Warren Welsh, of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Nov. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services will be held Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Warren Litchfield officiating. Burial will be at Emmanuel United Methodist Cemetery in Scaggsville.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11331 Amherst Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902.

Michael T. Wyatt

Michael Talbot Wyatt, 63, a resident of Laurel for 20 years, died Nov. 5, 2008 at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1944 in New York. From 1962 to 1965, he served in the Marine Corps in Okinawa. He worked for eight years for Belmont TV and also worked for Alpha and Omega Microscopes in Beltsville. He collected miniature cars and had collected more than 2,500 key chains. His grandchildren called him "Hoppa."

Mr. Wyatt is survived by his wife, Denise Wyatt; daughter and son-in-law Cecily and David Israel, of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law Abner and Janine Wyatt, of Greenbelt; grandchildren Christina Lohr, Jacquelyn Israel, Trinity Lohr and Nanette Wyatt; sisters Debra Harwell and her husband, Michael, of Oswego, Ill., and Pamela Olivastro, of Ballwin, Mo.; and brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Carol Wyatt, of McMinnville, Ore.

Visitation was Nov. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with a family friend, Jim Frid, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Wayne M. Souder

Wayne Morris Souder, 70, of Madison, died Nov. 1, 2008 at his home.

Born June 6, 1938 in Scaggsville, he was the son of the late Amos Edward Souder II and Mildred Leona Poe Souder.

He was a direct descendent of the poet and author Edgar Allan Poe. He worked for Sunshine Biscuit and owned and operated his own printing business in Laurel and then worked for Exxon, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge and the National Rifle Association. An avid outdoorsman, he liked to hunt and fish, and was also a creative craftsman.

In addition to his parents, a son, Timothy Lee Souder, a brother, Larry Souder, and his stepfather, Lawrence Arnold, preceded him in death.

Mr. Souder is survived by his wife of 48 years, Charlotte V. (Shifflet) Souder, of Madison; children Linda Williams and her husband, Jimmy, Wayne M. Souder II and his wife, Linda, all of Taylors Island, and Cindy Parks and her husband, Ben, of Cambridge; stepdaughter Donna Carr and her husband, Bruce; stepsons Bill Disney and his wife, Germaine, and Dale Disney and his wife, Laura; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Ireland and her husband, Vern, of Madison; brothers Amos Souder and his wife, Charlotte, of Laurel, Craig Arnold and his wife, Sue, of Stevensville, and Wilmer Arnold and his wife, Karen, of Barclay; sister-in-law Jean Souder, of Gambrills; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life service with military honors was held Nov. 5 at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home in Cambridge, with his cousin, David Holder, leading the service. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date.
