Clarence Edwin "Buddy" Bassler, of Taneytown, and formerly of Clarksville, died April 2, 2009, at his home. He was 76.
Born in Clarksville, on Jan. 29, 1933, he was the son of E. Edwin and Irma May Bassler. Mr. Bassler was the husband of Joan (Peddicord) Bassler, to whom he was married for 53 years.
Before moving to Taneytown 37 years ago to pursue farming, Mr. Bassler was a building contractor. A member of the Taneytown Baptist Church and also a trustee, he was named Cooperator of the Year by the Carroll Soil Conservation District.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bassler was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Bassler; and a granddaughter, Jessica Renee Bassler.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven and wife Lois Bassler, Philip and wife Rita Bassler, Patrick and wife Janai Bassler, Martha Hogue and husband Tom Runaldue, Ellen and husband Tom Childs, and Amy and husband Joe Stambaugh, all of Taneytown; and foster son Paul Roberts, of Virginia; sisters Ruth Bohlen, Irma Frederickson, Mary Brekke, all of Stewartsville, Minn., Dora Bush, of Zionsville, Ind., and Mildred Moore, of Quarryville, Pa.; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 6, 2009, at Taneytown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Buchman officiating. Interment was in Meadow Branch Cemetery.

Barbara Hauf
Barbara (Collins) Hauf, of Sykesville, died April 5, 2009, at the Dove House, in Westminster, from breast cancer. She was 52.
Mrs. Hauf was born Jan. 30, 1957, in Baltimore, and was the daughter of Joseph Collins and Elizabeth (Maher) Collins, of Eldersburg.
She was a graduate of Glenelg High School, where she was a cheerleader and played field hockey. She became a homemaker after working for G. E. Capital.
Mrs. Hauf was a second mom to many of her son's friends, family members said. She was a volunteer at the snack bar for Sykesville Raiders football and also a volunteer for Piney Ridge Elementary School. Mrs. Hauf was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, in Eldersburg.
Surviving are her sons, Scotty and Matt Hauf, both of Sykesville; brother Joe and his wife, Becky Collins; sisters Debbie and her husband, Doug Dawson, and Mary Lee and her husband, Richard Diggs; brothers-in-law David and his wife, Donna Hauf, and Kurt and his wife, Carlie Hauf; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Christine, Lindsay, Nicholas and Maddie Collins, Kurt Dawson, Jackie and Eddie Daubert, Jackson Hauf, Shannon, Richie and Keith Diggs.
Funeral services were held April 8, 2009, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Community, in Eldersburg.

Opha H. Kinser
Opha H. Kinser, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Daisy, died March 26, 2009. She was 92.
She was born Dec. 6, 1916, in Bloomington, Ind., to Curt Hayes and Minnie Rachel (Robertson) Hayes.
She received her bachelor's and master degrees at Indiana University. She completed 45 hours of additional education at George Washington University. She began 47 years of teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Monroe County, Ind., in 1935.
After receiving several advanced certificates and excelling as a reading specialist, she officially retired after 19 years of teaching in Howard County at Lisbon and West Friendship elementary schools.
Mrs. Kinser was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Kinser; and siblings Oma, Olive, Opal, and Lenzy; and son-in-law David Rumney.
She is survived by siblings David P. Hayes and Josephine Frame; two daughters, Rose K. Rumney, and Beth K Straley; three grandchildren, David M. Rumney and his wife, Nicolette Rumney, Ben K. Rumney and his wife, Jeri Petropoulos Rumney, and Amanda B Danford; and four great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Hannah Rumney, and Dillon and Colin Rumney.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 13, 2009, at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, Indiana. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. with the memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Harold Godsey officiating.
