Daniel J. Leonard
Daniel Joseph Leonard, formerly of Laurel, died May 16, 2009, at his home in The Villages, Fla. He was 84.
Born in New York City, Mr. Leonard served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was appointed to the Massachusetts Draft Board by the Governor after his military service.
In 1963, he and his family moved to Laurel, where he was a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Leonard also was club champion one year at the old Laurel Pines Golf Course and a past president of the Laurel Chapter of the Sons of Italy.
Mr. Leonard and his wife moved to The Villages in 1990 after his retirement as a sales representative of the American Tobacco Company. He founded the Italian-American Club, continued his membership in the American Legion, and was the co-founder of the Lady Lake (Fla.) Dog Park, while at The Villages.
Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife, Patricia, of The Villages; his sons, Daniel Leonard, of Washington, D.C., Chris and his wife, Angela Jo Leonard, of St. Augustine, Fla., Kevin and his wife, Vicki Leonard, of Columbia, and Sean Leonard, of Laurel; his daughter, Maura and her husband, Dennis Cunningham, of Apex, N.C.; and his brother, Robert Leonard, of Palm Springs, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
