Edwin L. Vollmerhausen

Edwin Leroy Vollmerhausen, 50, of Elkridge, died June 5, 2009 at his home of pancreatic cancer.

Born Dec. 13, 1958 in Laurel, he was the son of the late Frank and Evelyn Vollmerhausen. A lifelong resident of Howard County, he graduated from Atholton High School in 1976. He worked for Scan Furniture for 30 years, until the store closed in 2008. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, hiking, fishing and spending time with his family.

His parents, Frank and Evelyn Vollmerhausen, preceded him in death.

Mr. Vollmerhausen is survived by his sons, Billy Vollmerhausen and his wife, Caitlyn, of Virginia, and Tommy Vollmerhausen and his girlfriend, Michele Vissar, of Elkridge; daughter Sarah Vollmerhausen, of Elkridge; grandson Danny Vollmerhausen, of Virginia; sister Luanne Rushing, of Savage; brothers Bud Vollmerhausen, of Deale, and Seibert Vollmerhausen, of Savage; stepmother Gladys Vollmerhausen, of Savage; and his best friend, Rose Bechtold, of Savage.

A memorial service will be held June 12 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia.

Carrie Z. Ballenger

Carrie Zella Ballenger, 84, of Belleview, Fla., who formerly lived in Laurel, died May 6, 2009 at her home.

She was born Dec. 13, 1924 in Hamilton, Va.

Her husband, Floyd Ballenger, and two of her children preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ballenger is survived by her daughter, Juanita Campbell, of Gibsonton, Fla.; sons Howard Ballenger, of Laurel, and Floyd Wayne Ballenger, of Belleview; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
