Eleanor M. McDaniel
Eleanor Mae McDaniel, 80, a longtime resident of Laurel, died June 4, 2009 after a 19-year struggle with Alzheimer's.
Born Aug. 7, 1928 at home in Oliphant Furnace, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Emmett Cole and Leila Mae (Marks) Cole. The McDaniels lived in Smithfield, Pa., until 1967, when they moved to Laurel. She worked at Citizen's National Bank on Main Street and the Laurel Shopping Center until her early retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Laurel Business and Professional Women. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel, she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was especially fond of animals. Her family remembers her as a cherished friend who was admired by those who knew her.
In addition to her parents, her brother Ray Donald Cole, and a sister, Eva Jean Niner, preceded her in death.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her husband of 59 years, James R. McDaniel, of Laurel; daughter Kandy Lee Lackey, and her husband, Raymond A. Lackey, of Laurel; grandchildren Alan B. Lackey and Erin E. Lackey, of Pasadena; great-grandchild Roman N. Riggleman; and sister Sara Catherine Barnes, of Uniontown, Pa.
Visitation was June 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services were June 8 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Laurel Chapel, with Pastor Stanley Beall and the Rev. Emmanuel Ephraim officiating. Burial will be near Mrs. McDaniel's birthplace in Pennsylvania.

Edna R. Redmond
Edna R. Redmond, 83, of Savage, died June 1, 2009 at Laurel Regional Hospital after a long illness. She was a resident at Cherry Lane Nursing Home in Laurel for the last five years.
Mrs. Redmond worked at Litton Industries in College Park for 19 years and retired from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory after 24 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Savage.
Her husband of 53 years, Raymond Redmond, preceded her in death in 2002. She is also predeceased by her parents, Otis and Minnie (Pierce) Conner; brothers Lester, Orie, Emery, Lewis and Earl Conner; and sisters Mary Reed and Anna Bunker.
Mrs. Redmond is survived by her sisters Eva Sherman, of Laurel, and Stella Hiodthaul, of Chestertown; brother Leonard Conner, of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services were June 4 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
