Brenda S. Dean

Brenda S. (Smith) Dean, of Eldersburg, died June 8, 2009, at the Carroll Hospice-Dove House, in Westminster. She was 65.

She was born Aug. 11, 1943, in Houlton, Maine, and was the daughter of Pauline F. Powell White and Kenneth Smith.

She received a master's degree in accounting from Loyola. Mrs. Dean was a CPA and an assistant county auditor for Howard County government. Mrs. Dean served as treasurer and Sunday School teacher and was an active member at Calvary U.M. Church, in Mount Airy. She also helped with Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Dean was preceded in death by her father; and her brother, Larry Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Dean III; her children, Jennifer and her husband, George Solomos, and Katie and her husband, Jon Engemann; her siblings, Cheryl Pringle, Phyllis Cavin and David Smith; and her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Engemann, Harry Solomos, Brandon Engemann, Rebecca Solomos, Mary Beth Engemann and Gabriel Engemann.

Interment was private at Arlington National Cemetery.
