Anita Torchin

Anita Torchin, of Philadelphia, died June 9, 2009, at Morningside Assisted Living, in Ellicott City, from Parkinson's disease.

Born in New York City April 18, 1923, she was in the U.S. Navy Waves from 1943 to 1945, and later worked for the Department of Defense after raising her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Torchin; and her parents, Benjamin and Frances Afros.

Mrs. Torchin is survived by her daughter, Linda Caplan, of Columbia; her son, Larry Torchin, of St. Louis; her sister, Mildred Duncan, of Sunrise, Fla.; five grandchildren, Randy, David and Jonathan Caplan, and Jake and Campbell Torchin; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Bella Caplan.

A funeral service was held June 11, 2009, at Levinson's Funeral Home, with the Rabbi Mossman officiating the service.
