Alice M. Simpson

Alice Mae Simpson, of Dayton, died June 15, 2009, at Howard County General Hospital. She was 82.

Born June 24, 1926, in Laurel, Mrs. Simpson was the daughter of Walter Gray and Viola Suffornina Green Whitehead.

She was the wife of Walter Dorsey Simpson Sr., who preceded her in death in 2006.

A homemaker for many years, she also tended to the family farm.

Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her siblings, Johnny and Billy Whitehead and Rosie Smith.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Walter D. and Diane Simpson Jr., of Westminster, Gary and Gloria Simpson, of Dayton, Clinton and Karen Simpson, of Dayton, and Harry and Jenny Simpson, of Marriottsville; daughters and companions, Darlene Thompson and Dana Wilt, of Dayton, and Peggy Simpson and Bobby McCracken Jr., of Dayton; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Bill Rothstein, of Elkridge, and Debbie and Wayne Rippeon, of Dayton; and sisters, Anna Burt and Mildred Day, both of Laurel. Mrs. Simpson is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the funeral home.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, in Sykesville. Interment will be private.
