Fern Dixon Clark, 81, of Laurel, died June 15, 2009 at Collingswood Nursing Home in Rockville.
She was born April 26, 1928 in Bristol, Conn., daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Dixon. She worked for the National Security Agency and belonged to the NSA shooting club. She also helped her husband with their businesses, an auction house and a second-hand store. Active with the senior citizens of Laurel, she won several awards as a state volunteer, loved gardens and made ceramics. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Ned Clark, and her sisters and brothers, Milicent, Alfred and Floyd Dixon and Beulah Schpenis, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her children, Marc Douglass Clark and his wife, Penny, and Chris Clark Murray and her husband, Quentin; grandchildren Renee Ruslander, Noelle Stickell, Marc Clark II, Abigail Goodrich, Kelli Clark and Kristian Clark; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Eleanor "Jackie" Delgado; and brother Arthur Dixon.
Visitation was June 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fleck Funeral Home, 7601 Sandy Spring Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated June 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 8603 Contee Road. Burial will be at Maryland National Cemetery in Laurel.
Edward J. Cook
Edward James Cook, 80, a resident of Croyden, Pa., who formerly lived in Laurel, died June 10, 2009 at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.
Born Nov. 16, 1928 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Catherine Lauinia (Gaskins) and Patrick Michael Cook. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in Washington, and later attended Catholic University. During the Korean War, he served in the Army in Germany. He moved to Laurel in 1964. He worked for the Postal Service in Washington for many years, and in plant maintenance at Catholic University. A member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, he was involved with the church choir.
His wife, Mary Jane (Palmisano) Cook, and his brothers, Michael, Walter, John and Robert Cook, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cook is survived by his daughter, Lily Kateri Cook; sons Mark Edward Cook and David Walter Cook; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was June 15 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave., and from 11 a.m. to noon at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. John Wielebski at noon. Burial was at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
