Mary-Kathryn Abernathy

Mary-Kathryn Michele Abernathy, of Columbia, died June 21, 2009. She was 21.

Born April 13, 1988, in Pensacola, Fla., Ms. Abernathy was a student at Howard Community College, where she was majoring in secondary education.

She was a 2006 graduate of Long Reach High School and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Ms. Abernathy was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Mary Katherine Abernathy and Judy Romano.

She is survived by her father and step-mother, Dave and Michelle Abernathy, of Columbia; her mother, Lisa Duty, of Richmond, Va.; her sister, Robyn Abernathy, of Columbia; her step-brother, Phillip Cooper, of Columbia; and her grandparents, Norma and Roland Villars, of Richmond, Bill and Sue Duty, of Cleveland, Robert Abernathy, of Weaverville, N.C., Faye Abernathy, of King George, Va., and Larry and Sue Miller, of Lineboro.

A funeral service will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, 4261 Montgomery Road, in Ellicott City, with the Rev. Paul Viswasam officiating.
