William A. J. Sippel

William A. J. "Bill" Sippel, 61, a longtime resident of Bowie, and Sherwood Forest, died June 21, 2009 in Sherwood Forest, of a presumed heart attack.

Born in Baltimore April 6, 1948, he was the son of the late John Parker Sippel and Ruth Jenkins Sippel. He grew up in Takoma Park and Laurel. A 1970 graduate of Duke University with a degree in mathematics, he later earned a master's in computer science at the University of Maryland. He worked his entire career for the Department of Defense in the information technology field. His family remembers him as a wonderful father and husband, who loved sports, home repairs and a good cold beer.

Mr. Sippel is survived by his wife, Martha McClintock Sippel, whom he married in 1972; children Emily, Jonathan and Evan Sippel; brother John P. Sippel Jr.; and sister Marjorie Sippel Murphy.

A memorial service was held June 27 at 11 a.m. at Stewart Hall in Sherwood Forest.

Harry W. Stewart Sr.

Harry Wesley Stewart Sr., 62, a resident of Laurel since 1987, who formerly lived in Harmony, Pa., died June 23, 2009 at Laurel Regional Hospital.

Born March 5, 1947 in Jackson Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen Stewart. He graduated in 1966 from Seneca Valley High School and received an associate degree from Beaver County Community College. He served in the Army in Vietnam for about two years. He worked as an accountant for the Department of Defense, retiring from the National Security Agency in April 2009 with 25 years of service. He was a member of Savage United Methodist Church and the Ferndale Golf Association.

His sisters, Rebecca Verba and Darla Middleton, preceded him in death.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jeannie Stewart; daughter Dawna Marie Stewart; sons Harry Wesley "Butch" Stewart Jr., and Jeffery Scott Stewart; grandchildren Kimberly Marie Stewart, Jamie Musicant and Dalton Michael Stewart; sisters Catherine Finley, H. Arlene Farinelli, Harriett Kennedy and Eva John; and brothers Arthur I. Stewart Jr., Timothy J. Stewart and Matthew W. Stewart.

Visitation was June 27 and 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services were June 29 at 11 a.m. at Savage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Craig officiating. Burial was at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
