Donald V. Freiert Sr.

Donald Vincent Freiert Sr., of Columbia, and a former resident of Baltimore, died of natural causes June 24, 2009, at his home. He was 86.

Mr. Freiert was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Buffalo, N.Y.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola College and attended the Baltimore College of Commerce.

He began his career in the financial field in Baltimore at Equitable Trust Company. He moved to Sealtest Dairies and later to Chestnut Farm Dairy, in Georgetown. His career expanded in the Washington, D.C., area, and Mr. Freiert retired in 1988 from American University as director of payroll.

Mr. Freiert was a member of St. Louis Church for 33 years, a member of the Moose Lodge, in Glen Burnie, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, in Baltimore.

He was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Colts, as well as big band music. Family members said he was known for his crazy hats and humorous stories. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Virginia, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 22.

Mr. Freiert is survived by his wife, Virginia Freiert, of Columbia; his sons, Donald V. Freiert Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Columbus, Ohio, Jim Freiert and his wife, Jane Sachs, of Columbia, Gerry Freiert and his wife, CeCe, of Ellicott City, and Mark Freiert, of Columbia; his daughters, Mary Helen Naecker and her husband, Carl, of Calabash, N.C., and Anne Marie Hunt and her husband, Paul, of Catonsville; her grandsons, Michael Naecker and his wife, Tiffany, of Lusby, Brian Naecker and his wife, Kristen, of Lusby, Jason Freiert and his wife, Carrie, of Reisterstown, Andy Freiert, of Elkridge, Matthew Freiert, of Columbia, Daniel Freiert, of Columbia, Will Hunt, of Catonsville, and Sam Hunt, of Catonsville; his granddaughters, Jennifer Giambrone and her husband, Jeff, of Clinton, Miss., Jessica Wysokinski and her husband, John, of Rochester Hills, Mich., Joanna Freiert, of Columbus, Kristen Freiert, of Arnold, Kellie Freiert, of Elkridge, Molly Freiert, of Ellicott City, and Meghan Freiert, of Columbia; her great-granddaughters, Kara Wysokinski, Amanda Wysokinski and Alyssa Wysokinski, of Rochester Hills, and Sarah Giambrone, of Clinton, Miss.; and a sister, Anita Lyden and her husband, Bob, of Baltimore; and 26 nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held on July 1, 2009, at St. Louis Catholic Church, in Clarksville, with the Rev. Dominique Peridans officiating. Interment was at Columbia Memorial Park.
