Mary Gayer
Mary Isabell Amoss Gayer, of Ellicott City, died June 24, 2009, at Gilchrist Hospice. She was 65.
Born Dec. 15, 1943, in Long Corner, she was the daughter of Stanley L. Amoss Sr. and Clara I. Snowden Amoss.
A graduate of Glenelg High School in 1961, she married Stanley J. Gayer in 1965. After high school, she worked as a baby-sitter, then at Murphy's. She was a homemaker until the 1980s before working for K-mart, from which she retired in 2005.
Mrs. Gayer was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James V. Gayer in 1986; and by her siblings, Stanley L. Amoss Jr., Russel Amoss, Grace Shaw, Earl Amoss and Kenneth Amoss.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley J. Gayer, of Ellicott City; her daughter, Christine M. Gayer, of Ellicott City; her grandson, George O. Stotler Jr., of Ellicott City; her siblings, Howard Amoss, of Reading, Pa., Doris Gassaway and her husband, Jake Gassaway, of Mount Airy, Richard Amoss and his wife, Cora, of Detour, Gail Ridenour, of Moorseville, N.C., Norman Amoss and his wife, Victoria, of Panama City, Fla., Roy Amoss, of Columbia, Lloyd Amoss, of Mount Airy; sister-in-law Alma Amoss, of Damascus; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on June 30, 2009, at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home Inc. and was officiated by the Rev. Matt Buening of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment was at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
