Rose Smith Lofgren, of Glenwood, died March 16, 2008, at her residence. She was 89.
Born June 8, 1918, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to Ben and Laura Alice Smith, she graduated from high school in Washington, D.C.
She earned an art degree from the Corcoran School of Art.
She married Pete Lofgren in 1943.
In 1984, Mrs. Lofgren worked as a consulting quilt block designer on the Historic Landmark Quilt of Howard County, 1634-1984. The quilt hangs in the George Howard Office Building, in Ellicott City.
Family members recall that her love of gardening led her to become a member of western Howard County's Cattail Garden Club shortly after moving to Howard County in 1970. Mrs. Lofgren participated in several community projects, as well as the "Summers Bounty" sale and other community-based activities and scholarships through the club.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Lofgren is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and Don Moss, of Pennsylvania and Kristi and Ted Currier, of Woodbine; and three grandchildren, Kathy Moss, Robert Currier and Elizabeth Currier.
A celebration of her life was held June 8, 2008, in Glenwood. The family displayed a selection of her artwork.
