Marvin C. Fuchs

Marvin Charles Fuchs, of Westminster, died June 7, 2008, of lung cancer, at Carroll Hospice Dove House. He was 78.

Born Nov. 1, 1929, in Baltimore, to Charles Paul and Marie Treuchel Fuchs, he graduated from Catonsville Senior High School in 1947.

Mr. Fuchs graduated from the University of Maryland in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a second lieutenant and was based in the Southwest, particularly in New Mexico at the Continental Divide, working in radar. He was discharged in 1955.

He married Anna Padilla in 1955.

Beginning in 1956, Mr. Fuchs worked as a mechanical engineer for Westinghouse, in Friendship. During his employment, he developed a lunar drill for use on the moon. He retired in 1992 after 36 years of service.

He was a founding member of the Catonsville Elks Club; a member of Elkridge Kiwanis Club; the Dewey Lowman Post 109; and volunteered at Relay Elementary School, in Baltimore.

Family members recall that he was an avid runner who ran with the Howard County Striders and the Baltimore Roadrunners. He enjoyed walking along Uniontown Road, in Westminster, and traveling, especially to New Mexico.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Donald Bell, of Westminster; a son and a daughter-in-law, Edward Fuchs and Marleine Harper, of Westminster; a sister, Marian Watson, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and three grandchildren, Erin Sikorski, Donald Bell and Adam Fuchs, all of Westminster.

Funeral services are slated for Friday, June 13, 2008, 11 a.m., at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. The Rev. Rick Shamer is scheduled to officiate.

Interment will be private.
