Maynard L. Miles, of Avon Park, Fla., formerly of Scaggsville, died March 22, 2008, at his residence. He was 69.

Born Aug. 16, 1938, in Scaggsville, to Irving and Romaine Miles, he attended Howard High School until 1954.

He married Betty Joan Bland in 1956.

Mr. Miles was a painting contractor who owned and operated his own company, Maynard L. Miles Painting and Contracting, which he took over from his father in 1951. He closed the Fulton-based company in 1978 when he retired and relocated to Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Romaine Miles; a brother, Earl Miles; and a sister, Mickey Harmon.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Miles is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Tony Smith, of Clermont, Fla., Julie and Sonny Bayne, of Prince Frederick, and Karen E. Miles, of Avon Park; a son and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Libby Miles, of Plant City, Fla.; a brother, Stanley Miles, of Virginia; a sister, Jessie Burton, of Fulton; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 26, 2008, at Fountain Funeral Home Chapel in Avon Park. The Rev. Vernon Harkey officiated.

Interment followed at Bougainvillea Cemetery in Avon Park.

A remembrance and memorial service is slated for Saturday, June 14, 2008, 3:30 p.m., at Emmanual Methodist Church, 10755 Scaggsville Road, Laurel.
