Joseph L. Parks Sr.

Joseph Lawson Parks Sr., of Ellicott City, died June 9, 2008, of a heart attack, at Howard County General Hospital. He was 94.

He was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Tangier Island, Va., to John Lawson and Marlan Baker Parks.

In the mid-1930s, Mr. Parks enlisted in the Maryland National Guard and was part of the medical corps. He was discharged in 1939.

He married Frances Alma Blades in 1939.

Mr. Parks worked as a salesman for Publicity Engravers, in Baltimore, for 62 years. He retired more than 20 years ago.

He was a lifetime member of the Kent Island Yacht Club and the Masonic Home, Lafayette Lodge, in Baltimore.

Mr. Parks was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Frances Alma Blades Parks, who died in 1995.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph L. Jr., and Nancy Parks of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and John A. and Mary Parks, of Bel Air; a sister, Rose Hayden, of Joppatown; and three grandchildren, Laura L. Pecunes, Jason Parks and Timothy Parks, all of Bel Air.

Funeral services were held June 13, 2008, at Eline Funeral Home in Reisterstown. The Rev. Timothy P. Feaser presided.

Interment followed at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
