She was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Louisville, Ky., to John Allen and Eleanor Robertson Easley. When she was 5, she and her family moved to Wake Forest, N.C., in order for her father to take a position as minister of Wake Forest Baptist Church.

She graduated from Wake Forest High School in 1940.

In 1944, she graduated from Wake Forest College with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

She trained for a year in Philadelphia, Pa., in order to become an occupational therapist. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Crippled Children's Clinic for two years.

She married David A. Reeder in 1948. He died in 1984.

In 1986, she married Bynum G. Shaw and relocated to Winston-Salem, N.C.

When her second husband died in 2001, she moved again, this time to Raleigh.

Mrs. Shaw is remembered for her love of children and for her service as a volunteer at Millbrook Elementary in Raleigh, for two years, and Douglass Elementary in Raleigh for one year. At both schools, she tutored kindergarten through second grade in various subjects.

In addition, she was a member for 30 years of Linden-Linthicum Methodist Church in Clarksville, where she served on several committees. She also made quilts, as well as hats for premature infants. For the last six years, she was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh.

She loved music and gardening, family members said.
